Keylink's surface mount aluminum posts are designed to work with Keylink aluminum railing systems, such as the Vertical Cable and Square Baluster systems. These deck posts are constructed of thick aluminum walled construction and feature welded base plate for surface mount construction. Installation is made easy because the base plate uses set screws and leveling plate, instead of shims. The groove in the post not only looks great, but allows railing brackets to self center during installation.

Great Product, Fastastic Customer Service

NOTE: This review applies to our entire cable railing experience, including all the Keylink products and their vendors.

We purchased Keylink American Series Black Vertical Cable Railings for a 16' x 16' balcony and three smaller balconies from INSO (online). We got 138 linear feet of railings, including stair railings. We have a log home (in Florida), so the railings were mounted to a combination of wooden posts or walls and Keylink aluminum posts. The railings will replace deteriorating heavy wooden railings with 2 x 2 balusters which obscure our lake view. We decided to do-it-ourselves, so ease of installation was important.

Emzy at INSO was very helpful in turning our sketches into dimensioned drawings and a Bill of Material BOM). We went through several versions of the design before we were satisfied. Emzy put up with many of our changes without bother.

Our order was a combination of stock and special made-to-order fascia-mount parts. Free shipping was included in the price. The stock parts came to our home in about two weeks on a pallet in a medium size truck with a lift gate. The driver unloaded the pallet and placed it in a convenient (for us) location. We knew from INSO the special parts would come in about 5-6 weeks after ordering, and they did. Very convenient!

We had a lot of demo and restoration to do before we could install the railing, so we did not inspect the first shipment thoroughly. When we did inspect (about the time the special parts arrived) we found they had shipped some of the railings in the silver cable version (not black). We panicked and called INSO on a Monday. They arranged for new railings (they were in stock) with their vendor (Wolf Building Products). We received the replacement railings on Wednesday (two days)! Wolf shipped them Overnight Air! They also picked up the incorrect parts for free return shipping.

We were very pleasantly surprised at the exceptional service! It turns out the label on each box of railings is very similar. The photos on the boxes both show silver cables, and the part numbers differ by one digit. Someone obviously picked the wrong parts without a very careful check of the label. But all ended well. Good recovery Wolf! I hope the stock picker still has their job!

The railings, fascia mounts and posts are powder-coated heavy-duty aluminum and stainless steel, with a slim but very strong profile. The black cable and railing almost disappears against the view, while being strong enough to protect babies and drunks.

For Do-It-Yourselfers: We have not yet completed our railing installation, just one balcony. The railings come pre-cabled, needing only straight-forward assembly. You do need to cut the railings to fit, so a power miter saw with aluminum-cutting blade is vital. Figure each railing will be cut at least once. We strongly recommend being very comfortable with hand and power tools. Also, you will need a wire cable cutter and sailboat rigging tensioner tool for tightening the cables. Use vice-grip pliers to keep the cable from turning when using the tensioner tool. Use a piece of leather (we cut up an old belt) around the cable to protect the finish from the vice-grip jaws. These tools are available from Keylink, but way overpriced. The railings and posts can be easily fastened to wood, but you will need to purchase your own fasteners. We recommend stainless steel fasteners. Good luck!
