Fits Keylink, Trex, Deckorators and most aluminum posts

LMT Deck and Rail Lighting

  • Post caps for 2-1/2 and 3-1/4 inch aluminum posts
  • A 92 inch rail strip that trims every 2 inches
  • Solar caps where running wire is impractical
  • 50 watt smart transformer with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

LMT deck lighting is the low voltage line that fits the most posts: Keylink, Trex, Deckorators and most other aluminum railing at 2-1/2 and 3-1/4 inch. One transformer runs the post caps, step lights, recessed lights and rail strips together.

Which LMT fixture does what?

Post caps carry the look and sit on every post. Below them, a step light mounts in a stair riser and a recessed deck light drops into the deck surface or a riser with a flush trim, which is what you use where there is no post to mount to. The 92 inch rail strip goes under the top rail and puts more light on the deck than any post fixture. The dome side light is the small one for a post face or a stringer.

Halo, downward or combo post cap?

A downward cap carries its LEDs underneath, so it reads as a plain post cap by day and washes light down the post onto the deck. A halo cap throws a ring of light outward, which is the traditional lit post look from across the yard. The combo does both and is the one to buy when you cannot decide, because you can run either half.

How many lights will one transformer run?

Size it at 80 percent of the transformer, so 40 watts of the 50 and 9.6 watts of the 12. LMT post caps draw 0.8 watts each and the 92 inch strip draws 3, which puts about 50 caps or 13 strips on the 50 watt unit. The 50 watt is the smart one with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; the 12 watt is the small plug in for a short run.

Is solar bright enough?

Depends what you want it to do. LMT rates its solar cap at about 6 lumens against 22 to 90 for the low voltage fixtures, so solar marks the post and adds a glow rather than lighting the deck. Where running wire is impractical that still beats a dark deck, and you can add a wired fixture at the stairs where it matters.

Will it fit my posts?

Measure across the outside of the post. LMT covers 2-1/2 and 3-1/4 inch, which is the size of most aluminum railing posts, and it fits Keylink just as well as Trex and Deckorators. Send us a photo and the measurement and we will confirm the fit before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Can I run deck lights without wiring?

Yes, with a solar post cap. It charges from a panel in the top of the cap and puts out around 6 lumens, so treat it as a marker light rather than task lighting. Every other LMT fixture runs on a 12 volt supply.

What size transformer do I need?

Add up the fixture wattage and buy a transformer with at least 25 percent headroom. Post caps are 0.8 watts and the 92 inch strip is 3. Send us the layout and we will do the arithmetic and the wire routing.

Does LMT fit Keylink railing?

Yes, on 2-1/2 and 3-1/4 inch Keylink posts. Placid Point is the Keylink-specific line and routes inside the rail as well, so it is the neater option on a Keylink deck. LMT is the one to use on a mixed or non-Keylink deck.

Can the rail strip be cut?

Yes. The 92 inch strip trims every 2 inches, so it fits a section without leaving a dark gap. Seal the cut end before you install it.

How do you light stairs?

A step light in the riser is the direct answer, and a recessed light with flush trim is the option where the riser is closed or you are lighting a landing. Add a dome side light on the stair post if you want the handrail lit too.

Do the lights come on by themselves?

With the 50 watt smart transformer, yes. It has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and schedules from a phone. The 12 watt is a plain plug in transformer, so it needs a timer or a switch.
