What does horizontal cable railing cost?

Keylink runs $165–200 a foot. Deckorators runs $100–120 a foot. Both are materials only.

Where you land in that range comes down to your layout, so your specialist prices your actual deck.
Can I install this myself?

Most of our customers do. How handy you are matters more than the system. Every system we carry is designed for a competent DIY installer, and your quote includes the layout you'll build from.
Will it pass inspection?

Every product we carry is third-party evaluated to meet residential and commercial building requirements. We can provide a copy of the evaluation report so you can hand it straight to your inspector.
Will the cable sag?

Not when it's tensioned to spec. Keylink spans up to 100 feet, Deckorators up to 50, and both have tensioning requirements set for those lengths.

Check your cable to the manufacturer's requirements and re-tension if it needs it.
Is horizontal cable railing safe with kids?

The ladder effect is a theory from the early 1990s. Model code discouraged horizontal infill for a few years, then the ICC pulled that language from the IRC in 2001, because the evidence never showed horizontal guards raised child injury rates. It hasn't come back since.

If it still sits wrong with you, we sell vertical cable too. The cables run top to bottom, so there's nothing to step on. Same brands, just turned the other way.
